Four riders from the New Forest Pony Enthusiasts rode their ponies with great determination in the S.E.I.B. British Riding Clubs Quadrille of the year held at Olympia in the London International Horse Show, 19th December, to be beaten by only three marks!
The team consists of Wendy Adams on Burley Branston, Sally-Ann Pierson on Chester II, Martine Reeves on Farriers Fingerprint (this pony also in the NPS/Baileys M&M Supreme Ridden Championship the following day) and Helen Campbell on Farriers Foxglove. The trainer is Claire Moir, Chef d'Equipe Sarah Green and costume makers Janet Walton and Tricia Russell.
Calling themselves the New Forest Do Se Doe'ers they have been practising since January 2007, they have learnt to square dance so that they could perform similar movements on their ponies, collated music to match the ponies' steps, made high quality costumes and under the instruction of Claire Moir carried out dressage movements. The competition is judged on appearance, content of programme, performance and general artistic impression.
In October at Addington, competing amongst 17 riding clubs they claimed one of the four qualifying places. In the final the winners were Moat View RC - Furious Angels, second the New Forest Do Se Do'ers, third Worlington RC - Fine and Dandy and fourth Southerndown RC - Goldilocks and the Three Bears.
