IMPORTANT NOTES AND GUIDANCE - If you need advice please contact us.

Depastured Forest Bred ponies are exempt from passports under the strict guidelines issued by DEFRA.
Click here to download their statutory regulations - see page 26 for details referring to New Forest ponies. Ponies eligible for entry within the Stud Book will require registration. Please contact us for further guidance.

A New Forest Pony which has been passported with another agency (Pet Plan etc) ceases to be eligible for competition or breeding as a New Forest Pony until the passport has been validated by this society.

A passport is only valid if it shows the name address of the current owner.

The name of the breeder musr appear as both first owner and breeder in their passport.

All foals must be registered with a full passport from this society by 31st December of the year of their birth or they will lose their New Forest Pony status.

Only breeders prefixes may be used - the use of new prefixes is subject to permission from the Central Prefix Register, please contact us for application details.

Stallions & Colts - Licensing will normally be done at two years and again at five years old, except in exceptional circumstances when the decision of the Council shall be final. All stallions must undergo veterinary inspection and be DNA Tested at their first inspection, details of the Inspection and forms can be obtained from the Office. Stud stallion owners must make a return of all registered mares served each season. No foal may be registered until this return or a covering certificate is received. NB Ponies sired by unlicensed entires are NOT eligible for the Stud Book.

Ponies bought at Beaulieu Road Sales - If the pony was purchased from the eligible section and was born in or after 1998 it should have been foal recorded and may well have a photocopied form with it, if so please contact the Office for an Application for Registration form and fill that out accordingly - please ensure however that the diagram of the pony on the photocopied form matches your pony - then return BOTH forms with the correct fee to the Office. If the pony has an Application form with that has been signed by the Breeder that may be returned to the Office as above. If the form that came with your pony has a name for the pony on it, you are not bound to Register it by that name, however the use of Prefixes is restricted (see Prefixes above) and PLEASE ensure that the description and diagram are an accurate depiction of the pony.

The description given on the Application Form form should be accurate and you should ensure that there are a minimum of five points of identity, whorls, dorsal stripes, flaxen manes and tails etc. should be accurately marked and described, as well as any white markings.
