ROMSEY SHOW REPORT - 8th September 2007

Due to a broken ankle Mr Western was unable to judge the New Forest In Hand classes at Romsey Show on Saturday 8th September, so Nick Williams from the Isle of Wight ably stepped in. His winner of the Yearling class was the Breed show winner, Furzley Accolaide. A charming bay colt bred and owned by Sandra Kilford, Sired by Luckington Sportaide who has produced some lovely ponies over the years. Second in this class was Sabine Andree Parson's upstanding Chestnut colt Sabina's Gold Dust, by Peveril Peterborough.

Winner of the yearling class

The 2yo Filly or Gelding class was won by a Willoway bred pony which was unfortunately not catalogued so I have no further details. Second was Malcolm Fry's filly Bedeslea Gessamine who is also by Luckington Sportaide.

The 3yo class winner was Mr Paul Knowles and Mrs J Josey homebred bay filly Buttslawn Fantasia who were fresh from their win at Dorchester the previous week having collected the M&M in Hand Championship there. Fantasia is by Willoway Pipers Gold and went on to take the New Forest Youngstock Championship.

The supreme champion of this years breed show, Ashley Corriander owned by Miss Emma Collis made a visit to Romsey winning the brood mare class and taking the overall New Forest Championship. Second in the broodmare class was Jane Pothercary’s Ashurst Magic. However in the foal class Nick Williams chose Ashurst Magic's foal Longwater Limelight above Ashley Corriander's colt foal Dorridge Playmate.

The stallion class saw the return of last years winner Willoway Minstral owned and bred by Mr & Mrs Large.

In the strongest class of the section Nick Williams had 20 mares and geldings to judge with his eventual winner Bunny McGrath's bay mare Vernons Valeta who stood reserve champion to Ashley Corriander. Later in the afternoon Vernons Valeta gave an honest performance for her 83 year old rider Bunny McGrath to move up from second place to win the 138cms & over section of the New Forest Ridden which was full of some quality entries for Jenny Seymour to Judge. The 138cm & under New Forest Ridden was won by the Breed Show's Novice Champion Willoway Memory, owned & bred by Mr & Mrs Large.

In the mixed M&M WHP Ponies UK Qualifier Lynn Hughes piloted her own Rushmoor Peter Pod to jump the only clear round over a testing course, the duo then were deservedly awarded the WHP Championship.
