Elsbeth Cowell bought Haywards Valentino as a foal from his breeder Sally Marsh and I bought “Tino” lightly broken in August 2025. He was my project whilst my Arab recovered from an injury and we spent the winter doing lots of walks in-hand and then ridden to get used to traffic. Then we started attending clinics for dressage, polework and trec to get a good base of experience on board, before the show season. I managed to take him to a few local RC shows where we were successful in equitation, novice showing classes and we had our first dabble at dressage. He came 4th at Cheshire County in-hand which made me begin to think about his future in showing, as we’d initially been pulled in first! We were due to go to the Northern Breed Show followed by Royal Lancs County in-hand and ridden but then disaster struck…I had a freak accident when riding through a field which resulted in me being out of action for some time. This is when I decided to contact Liam Priestley and ask him to trial him for a week to see if he would make a show pony. Tino passed his induction with flying colours!
He’s been lightly competed coming 5th in a strong BSPS Mixed Novice Heritage class and then stood 3rd in their first NPS NF/Connie Picton, improving each time out. We wanted one last show before he came home, so chose NW Champs as it’s got a great atmosphere with good competition and would ask him a few more questions, without over facing him as a 5yrs old. He has absolutely loved the experience and they have made a fantastic combination…all being well, Liam will have him back at some point in 2027. Karen Corr
