The Society is pleased to confirm procedures are in place to continue issuing equine passports for ponies on our New Forest Part-Bred register.
Ponies added to our Part-Bred register will be issued Equine ID only passports to ensure compliance with current Defra regulations. These will continue to be issued using the burgundy coloured ‘New Forest Part-Bred’ covers to ensure they are easily identifiable as Part-Breds. The breeding information will be recorded in the “non-statutory” pages in the back of the passport as before. However, Section 5, Certificate of Origin will not be completed as it is not applicable to New Forest Part-Breds as they are not eligible for the Main Section of the New Forest Pony Studbook.
There are no other changes to procedures for adding ponies to our Part Bred register. Existing application forms can be used, and as set out in our update on 16 April 2025, these changes do not currently apply to any amendments or transfers required to existing Part-Bred registrations or equine passports already issued.
