“This very special story began in 2000…I was 12 and took 9 year old Loulou on loan. She was full of character and pizazz and had been a jumping and games pony, so liked to go fast and throw in a few cheeky bucks. Looking back now, I have no idea how I held her!
In 2002 Loulou’s owner wanted to sell her and unbeknown to me, my parents had arranged to buy her for my birthday. The day came and down to the yard we went…Loulou was in the stable adorned with a big pink bow round her neck…the best present a girl could ever receive! We moved yards nearer to home that November and she has been there ever since. We went on to compete regularly in jumping, games and showing.
In April 2011 disaster struck…Loulou had a life threatening lipoma colic and we had to get her over to Liphook Hospital on the mainland, which meant a ferry trip late at night from the Isle of Wight. At 20 years old we weren’t sure she would come out the other side, but the vets were hopeful. Mum and I sat in reception all night; after 6 hours of surgery and 12 feet of her intestine removed, Loulou had survived. My little fighter had come through, and after a lot of convalescing, rest and care, she slowly returned to work.
I had my little girl in 2015, so Lacey has grown up with Loulou and over time has wanted to ride her more and more, but Loulou has proved to take it all in her stride. Loulou hasn’t changed from the day I first met her, still a challenge to hold for me, but a good and quiet girl for Lacey.
This mare has been my pride and joy, so to see my daughter riding her is just magical. She has always tried her heart out for us and is truly one in a million…26 years of loving you, 35 this year…My Madam Loulou!” Laura Dupré
