It is with great sadness that we share the news of the recent passing of Kay Bailey.
Much respected breeders, Kay and Alan bred 35 ponies under their Applewitch prefix between 1992 and 2016.
Their small stud established a reputation at home and abroad with their first foal, Kay’s “darling” Applewitch Pure Magic enjoying great popularity as a sire, including Top Elite Sire 2013, Gold and Elite Graded Stallion status and HOYS New Forest Sire of the Year in 2017, 2022 and 2024. Magic was also the sire of Vynnes Magical Edition, the HOYS Supreme M&M Ridden Pony of the Year 2023.
Alan enjoyed great success showing Applewitch Roan Fantasia, the stallion Applewitch Diversity ran the forest for 3 seasons, while Applewitch Magister was Supreme Champion at the Breed Show in 2011.
Four Applewitch Stud ponies achieved silver graded status, and three gold graded status in the Elite Scheme, for which Kay was immensely proud”.
